Music Venues in Portsmouth

Music Venues in Portsmouth

We here at Singing Lessons Portsmouth are all about getting our students out there and performing. After all, is music not created to be shared? You might think that you are a long way from singing at Wembley, but all of our favourite singers had to start by playing smaller venues such as pubs and clubs. In fact, smaller venues can often be a lot more fun to perform in than larger ones, and will always offer a more intimate connection between audience and performer. We are very lucky here in Portsmouth to have a wide selection of different live music venues to choose from, so if you are looking to get gigs around town here are a few of our suggestions to get you started:

Portsmouth Guildhall is not only Portsmouth's largest venue, but is also known as the main events and conference centre in the south of England. Regularly featuring acts as varied as The Stranglers and Blue, the Guildhall is the perfect place to see your favourite bands in a sizeable venue. There are also regular visitors from the comedy circuit, such as Bill Bailey and Ross Noble, making this the perfect place to start whether you are in a band looking for supporting slots or you just want to see some great live entertainment. Portsmouth Guildhall can be found at Guildhall Square, Portsmouth PO1 2AB.

Wedgewood Rooms is probably the best place to see up-and-coming or underground acts in Portsmouth. More than just a music venue, Wedgewood Rooms is also a burgeoning comedy and club venue. Located at 147b Albert Road, Portsmouth PO4 0JW, it is worth keeping an eye on this one as you never know who is going to show up! It is also a great place to play if you are able to land a gig there, so we would recommend spending some time on a decent demo CD. We look forward to seeing you there!

RMA Tavern is the definitive live music pub. If you want great food and drink, and a lively atmosphere then this is definitely the place for you! Located at 58 Cromwell Road, Portsmouth PO4 9PN, The RMA Tavern is a great place to get started on your career as a live musician. Their flexible function room can be used to host everything from parties to gigs, and at a great price too. We would definitely recommend this one to all our singing students here in Portsmouth.

Grosvenor Casino is conveniently located in the Gunwharf Quays Centre, PO1 3TZ, within easy reach of Portsmouth town centre. Their show bar is the site for their regular live music, and presents a great oppurtunity to reach out to new fans. Even if you don't have a band, Grosvenor Casino also has regular karaoke nights, so no excuses from any of you singers! Even if casinos aren't your thing we would still recommend checking this place out, the atmosphere is infectious.

We hope that's enough to get you started; there are of course lots more live music venues in Portsmouth but we would recommend starting with those listed on this page. If you find any venues that aren't on this page that you think we should know about, please get in touch using the details at the top of the page - we would love to hear from you! Good look to all of our singing lessons students, if you have any questions about getting gigs or live performance then feel free to drop us a line. Happy singing!
